Rather than removing the tattoo, he previously told the BBC he planned to add the words “Just kidding” if his team did lose.
The idea for the tattoo came while Carrington was watching the World Cup during a holiday in Tenerife, a Spanish island off West Africa.
He made a pact with his friends that if England beat Congo he would go ahead with the ink. After England won that match, he waited until returning home before booking an appointment with a tattoo artist, according to the BBC.
“I’m just impulsive really,” he told the British broadcaster.
“The longer it goes on in your head, the more you talk yourself out of it.”
When he arrived home he contacted Holy Trinity Tattoo in Wigan to get the ink before England took on Norway in the quarter-finals.
“I called the shop and they were busy but when I explained what I wanted the lady said, ‘wow, yeah I’ll fit you in’.
“I’m glad really, as it’s a really good tattoo.
“It’s not the end of the world, it’s just a tattoo.”

“I did say to him that it’s permanent and it can’t wash off.
“Not that I don’t believe we can’t win,” she said at the time.
“He is a lovely guy, and was the life and soul of the studio that day.
“I’m very happy we did it. I was unsure at first but he was adamant and to him it was a bit of fun and he would get it done anyway.”
The tattoo studio posted a video of the work on social media, drawing a mixed response from commenters.
“Might possibly be the worst tattoo I’ve ever seen,” one said.
“Look forward to the cover-up very soon,” another said.
