Media Insider approached Anderson for comment today, asking if concerns had been raised about alleged behaviour involving substance use on the evening of the Radio Awards, in early June.
Anderson responded: “I have no comment at this time.”
Matt Anderson had been The Hits content director for almost five years.
It is understood Anderson has been working from home in recent days.
Boggs, in his full statement, said: “We’re unable to comment on individual employment matters for privacy reasons.
“What we can say is that we’re committed to our people feeling safe and supported in raising concerns. Any complaint is taken seriously and addressed promptly.”
Anderson has been the content director for The Hits for almost five years. He joined NZME in 2022 after a similar-length period at MediaWorks, including as More FM content director.
As content director for The Hits, he carried responsibility for the station’s talent, content and ratings performance.
On his LinkedIn page, Anderson outlines his leadership capabilities over the past 13 years.
“Since 2013, I’ve led high-performing content, programming and brand teams through fast-moving, high-pressure environments where strong judgement, clear communication and calm decision-making matter.
“My experience spans live broadcasting, talent leadership, crisis communications, stakeholder management, audience strategy, commercial integration and cross-platform content development.
“I’m at my best when leading people, shaping strategy and turning insight into action.”
Anderson’s departure is unrelated to NZME’s independent review launched after the exit of three other senior leaders from the media company late last year.
One of the three managers was an NZME executive – OneRoof boss Greg Hornblow, who was sentenced in March to 10 months’ home detention after admitting to receiving commercial sex services from a 14-year-old girl.
NZME said last month that a further staff member had left NZME following issues identified in the subsequent independent review, and a second matter remained under investigation.
Editor-at-Large Shayne Currie is one of New Zealand’s most experienced senior journalists and media leaders. He has held executive and senior editorial roles at NZME including Managing Editor, NZ Herald Editor and Herald on Sunday Editor and has a small shareholding in NZME.
