Best restaurant for dinner with friends?
Jungle 8 in Elliot Stables. My friends and I love their Sunday all-you-can-eat Vietnamese-inspired buffet. The spread includes over 30 dishes, and the generous seafood selection is always my personal favourite.
Best spot to finish a night out?
Haddad Kebab & Takeaways in Te Atatū Peninsula. They season their chips perfectly, and my go-to order is the classic Number 1 Hamburger Combo. They are the best (in the West) and even know my order the moment I pull up.
The place to take a visitor?
The Cyril Bassett VC Lookout in Stanley Point. The views are spectacular, especially at night with the city lights twinkling across the harbour. Every visitor I’ve taken there has been genuinely amazed.
Best coffee?
Kohi Beach Store. Nothing beats a coffee, a macaron and a walk along the waterfront.
Favourite trail for a hike?
The Omanawanui Track is peaceful and incredibly beautiful. It is definitely a tough leg workout with all the stairs, but the spectacular views are totally worth it.
Favourite fish and chip shop?
Te Atatū Fisheries & Takeaways. Always hits the spot. A long-standing family-owned business that has been there for years and is consistently great every time.
Venue for a gig?
Shout out to Q Theatre! I used to work there, so the venue and the people will always hold a very special place in my heart. It has an amazing, highly flexible, multi-purpose setup that can adapt to host absolutely anything. On top of that, the atmosphere, customer service, and sheer quality of the shows they put on make it truly unmatched.
Best spot for a bargain?
Academy Cinemas for their $5 Wednesdays! You can watch recently released films on the big screen for only five dollars. Go support them, have the ultimate cheap night out, and help keep cinemas alive!
