The Hutt City Council says a fault with its parking meters has been resolved.

A nationwide communications issue affected the meters shortly after 10am Monday, the council said.

The council said parking wardens did not enforce paid parking during the outage.

But now the problem was fixed, motorists needed to make sure their parking was paid to avoid a ticket.

On Monday afternoon a spokesperson for technology company Orikan said there had been a “small disruption to the Spark telecommunication’s network that impacted connectivity of a small percentage of our meters”.

They said the issue was not with the parking meters or supporting software.
