Archana Puran Singh says ‘Toaster’ didn’t bring more acting offers; ‘A lot of filmmakers thought that I was busy doing comedy shows’ Actor Archana Puran Singh has spoken about the challenges she continues to face in securing acting opportunities despite remaining active in the entertainment industry. While she has stayed connected with audiences through television, streaming shows, and recent films, she revealed that meaningful acting roles are still few and far between.The actor said she continues to receive offers for brand endorsements, but the flow of film projects has not changed significantly. According to her, she had expected recent releases to open more doors, but that has not happened. In a chat with News 18, she said, “I do get brand endorsement offers but acting offers are still not coming my way. It’s not like I’ve been flooded with offers even after Toaster.”
Archana Puran Singh talks about waiting for better roles
Archana revealed that she recently turned down a film because she was not convinced by the role. She explained that she is eager to continue acting, but prefers to wait for characters that genuinely excite her instead of accepting projects simply to stay busy.She added, “I refused a film a few days ago, not because of anything else but that I didn’t like the role. Great roles aren’t coming in yet. I would want to reiterate that line for all the filmmakers out there. I want to act but our industry is very different and it’s okay, I guess.” Reflecting on her career, the actor admitted that balancing a packed television schedule with film work often limited the projects she could accept. Although she managed to appear in a few movies during that period, she believes many of those parts were not substantial enough.
Recalls the long gap after ‘Bol Bachchan’
Archana also looked back at the period following the release of ‘Bol Bachchan’, when many believed she would receive a surge of film offers. However, she said reality turned out to be very different. She shared, “After Bol Bachchan had released, I got calls from trade analysts, who told me that I would be flooded with offers. I told them that I would call them the moment I get the first offer. Ten years passed by and I didn’t have a reason to call them. I didn’t get a single offer for those ten years. Our industry is very peculiar.”
Explains why filmmakers may have stayed away
According to Archana, one possible reason was that filmmakers assumed she would not be available because of her long-running television commitments. She explained that shooting schedules for films often clashed with her work on comedy shows, making it difficult to accept projects requiring long outdoor schedules. She said, “There could be so many reasons. A lot of filmmakers thought that I was busy doing comedy shows and so, I wouldn’t be able to give them my dates. When I was doing the show on TV, I couldn’t even do the few films that would be offered to me. I couldn’t have done a 15-day schedule in Scotland.” The actor believes those assumptions may have reduced the number of acting opportunities that came her way over the years.
Excited about a fresh chapter with ‘Adarsh Baal Vidyalaya’
Archana is now looking forward to Adarsh Baal Vidyalaya, which she considers an important step in her acting journey. She described the project as an opportunity to explore fictional storytelling in the streaming space after spending years on comedy and non-fiction shows.She said, “It’s a great opportunity that came to me. It’s a great way for me to step into the streaming fictional world. All this while, I’ve been doing a non-fiction show on OTT (The Great Indian Kapil Show). It’s unlike anything that you’ve seen me in before. The credit goes to the makers of the series.” Earlier, the actor had also spoken about struggling to convince filmmakers that she is capable of much more than comedy. She had said, “No matter how much I try, I’m not being able to convince filmmakers. Nobody is offering me roles. They aren’t very convinced that I’m an actor. They still think that I’m somebody who sits on a chair and laughs. I’m hoping that Toaster gives way to at least two more films for me.”Archana was last seen in ‘Toaster’ (2026).
