Delays are expected on State Highway 2 north of Tauranga after a truck rolled off the road near Katikati.

Emergency services responded to the incident, which was reported about 2.50pm near the Morton Rd roundabout.

Fire and Emergency northern fire communications shift manager Josh Pennefather said a truck and trailer rolled off the road.

The initial report said the driver was still inside, but the driver was out when crews from Katikati and Tauranga arrived.

Pennefather said ambulances also responded, but were stood down because there were no injuries.

A police spokeswoman said a truck had hit a power pole on SH2. “It appears there were only minor injuries.”

She said the road was blocked while police worked to recover the truck.

An NZ Transport Agency update about 5.20pm said the northbound lane at the Morton Rd roundabout was blocked.

“Only southbound traffic can pass. Expect the road northbound to be closed for at least the next 60 minutes as crew work to clear the scene.”

Motorists were advised to avoid the area and consider delaying their journeys if possible.

Owner of Strictly Outdoors on Morton Rd, Blake O’Loughlin, earlier said traffic was flowing.

He said he thought traffic would become congested when the truck was shifted.
