The Sensex slipped 7 points to 80,712 while the Nifty added 7 points to settle at 24,741. The Nifty Bank gained 39 points to close at 54,115, and the Midcap index rose 116 points to 57,075.

Both the Sensex and Nifty rose over 1% each, supported by broad-based buying. The Nifty Midcap index outperformed, climbing more than 2%, while the Nifty Bank added nearly 1%. Barring IT, all sectoral indices ended higher, led by strong gains in metals and autos.
Thirty-six of the 40 Nifty stocks advanced, with M\&M, Tata Steel and Eicher Motors emerging as top gainers. In all, 13 Nifty stocks rose in the range of 4–11%. On the other hand, IT stocks came under pressure through the week, with HCL Technologies, Wipro and Infosys among the top losers. In the midcap space, Nalco, Vodafone Idea, Samman Capital, Aditya Birla Fashion, BSE and SAIL recorded strong gains.
Auto stocks extended their rally on Friday, helping the sector emerge as the top gainer for the day, with Eicher Motors and M&M rising more than 2% each. Reliance also lent support, while IT continued to drag. Insurance stocks ended higher as companies indicated minimal impact from the GST rate change. Eternal clocked another positive close, hitting a record high, while ITC slipped 2% following GST-related news. Varun Beverages fell 4% after the tax rate on aerated drinks was raised.
Realty names stayed under pressure, with Prestige Estates and Godrej Properties among the top laggards. Vodafone Idea led midcap gainers, surging 10% on strong volumes, while BSE climbed nearly 5% despite a change in its expiry day. Indus Towers rose 4% after promoter Bharti Airtel increased its stake in the company. In contrast, Ola Electric dropped 7% as SoftBank pared its holding by 2% in the open market since mid-July.
