WHAT IS X-CORP?
X-Corp emerged after one of the darkest days in the history of the X-Men. When the global mutant population reached a peak of 17.5 million and developed a thriving culture around the world, Cassandra Nova, Professor X’s twin sister, unleashed a devastating attack on the mutant nation Genosha in NEW X-MEN (2001) #114 by Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely. After taking over her brother’s body, Nova made Professor X reveal that he was a mutant on live TV. With millions of mutants dead and his greatest secret in the open, Charles Xavier responded to these crises by forming X-Corp.
Officially called X-Corporation, X-Corp launched as a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting mutants with offices around the world. A global extension of the X-Men, each X-Corp branch was staffed by experienced mutant heroes who had previously served on teams like X-Force, X-Factor, and the New Mutants. While the X-Men were still based in New York, X-Corp had hubs in Los Angeles, Hong Kong, Singapore, Amsterdam, Mumbai, Melbourne, and the ruins of Hammer Bay in Genosha.
Paris also had an X-Corp office, even though part of the city had recently been damaged in an incident involving Banshee and his unrelated paramilitary unit called the X-Corps. Although most X-Corp members wore similar costumes to the black suits that the X-Men had started wearing, some X-Corp teams kept their more colorful costumes. Thanks to a worldwide network of telepathic Cerebra devices, any mutant on Earth could psychically call out to X-Corp and ask for assistance.
