Firefighters rescued three “very cold and extremely hungry” baby otters from a storm drain in Nottinghamshire.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service was called to Lantern Lane, near East Leake, at 21:34 BST on Wednesday after a person reported hearing noises coming from a drain.

The service said firefighters safely removed the otters before they were taken to Linjoy Wildlife Sanctuary in Etwall, Derbyshire, by a member of the public.

On Thursday, Lindsay Newell, from Linjoy Wildlife Sanctuary, said the otters would be transported to Stapeley Grange – an RSPCA-run wildlife centre in Cheshire.
