King Diamond and longtime guitarist Andy La Rocque have mutually parted ways after more than four decades together. Gus G. of Firewind and ex-Ozzy Osbourne steps in as the band’s new guitarist, effective immediately. Read the full statement below.

The news is seismic. Andy La Rocque has been the only constant in King Diamond besides the man himself, having played on all twelve studio albums and serving as producer on nearly every record since 1987’s Abigail. The split is described as mutual, and King Diamond’s statement leaves no bitterness in its wake: “Andy’s musicianship, dedication, and artistry have been an essential part of what makes this band what it is, and that will never be forgotten.”
Stepping into the role is Gus G., the Greek guitar virtuoso known from Firewind and his tenure as lead guitarist for Ozzy Osbourne from 2009 to 2020. King Diamond states: “It’s a big honor for me to welcome Gus G. as our new guitarist, who will compose with us, record with us, and tour with us in the future. Gus will still continue with all his current projects, Firewind, solo project, etc. No restrictions, just careful planning. We are already working with Gus, and I simply can’t wait for you to hear all the new King Diamond music with him playing guitar on it.”
The lineup change comes as King Diamond continues work on their long-awaited new album Saint Lucifer’s Hospital 1920, the first part of a planned horror trilogy. La Rocque, meanwhile, continues forward with Lex Legion, his supergroup reuniting the classic Them and Conspiracy era lineup alongside Mikkey Dee, Pete Blakk, Hal Patino, and vocalist Nils K. Rue of Pagan’s Mind.
