Meghan in the kitchen was a huge surprise to contestants, but there was one more to come.
It was MasterChef‘s biggest surprise…
Sunday night’s episode with Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, saw jaws on the floor of contestants.
When Meghan walked into a red carpet Flemington-based kitchen the remaining four contestants -watched on by those eliminated in the gantry- were clearly starstruck. Even the judges were trying to process the biggest name of them all.
“What is happening!” Poh Ling Yeow exclaimed.
There were smiles beaming around the kitchen.
“What is going on?” asked contestant Aaron.
“No pressure. It’s gonna be great,” Meghan replied.
Meghan looked relaxed and honoured to be stepping into the kitchen, giving the contestants her feedback as they cooked a dish worthy of a Duchess. She was mostly accompanied by Poh as the challenge proceeded.
But nobody expected a crew member to interrupt the judging by handing her a phone with Prince Harry calling.
“My husband is here,” said Meghan, showing her phone to contestants.”
There was more applause and waves from the shocked room.
“What’s going on. Have I interrupted something important?” Harry asked.
“We are actually in the middle of tasting all the dishes. We have four incredible cooks. Aaron is here. Vinnie’s back there, Casper and Petro. Say hi guys. It’s amazing, they’re so talented. We wish you were here. He’s in Canberra right now, with the veterans,” she explained.
“Chandeliers in the background, that’s very nice,” said Harry.
But she suggested a sambal sauce might be too spicy for his tastes. The Prince prefers steak and veg.
“I have loved every second of being here. I was already in love with Australia and this has justmade me over the moon….. all of these dishes are well worth flying over here for.”
“So good you’ll be coming back next year,” Poh teased.
Securing Meghan was the biggest coup for MasterChef this year, as the series heads into it final episodes.
