Tilta has just announced their full camera cage for the Sony FX5, a minimalist system that can also be converted to a half cage if needed. This cage features a standalone top plate/NATO rail, multiple 1/4″-20 and 3/8″-16 threads with various locating points all around the cage, a cold shoe receiver, and an ARCA Swiss bottom plate. So, let’s take a closer look at it!
Following the recent launch of the Sony FX5, most third-party accessory manufacturers are rolling out their rigging solutions even though the camera is not yet available. My colleague Johnnie reviewed the camera here if you want to learn more about it.
Tilta full camera cage for Sony FX5 – features
Tilta is well-known for offering affordable camera cages and rigging solutions for filmmakers. The company doesn’t disappoint with its recently announced full camera cage for the Sony FX5, which mainly consists of three parts: a top plate and left/right L-shaped plates.

Let’s start with what could be considered the foundation of the full camera cage: the right plate. This L-shaped plate attaches to the bottom of the camera with one 1/4″-20 screw, and to the right side of the camera with one extra screw to prevent any twisting.

This right side plate features a built-in cold shoe, multiple 1/4″-20 and 3/8″-16 threaded mounting points with locating points, and it comes with a removable HDMI clamp.

The left side plate “clicks” into the right side plate and is secured with an extra 1/4″-20 screw on the left side of the camera. It features extra 1/4″-20 and 3/8″-16 threads with locating points; it doesn’t block the memory card slot, and it has a pinky rest in front of the camera grip for extra comfort.

Because the plate slightly obstructs the battery door, Tilta has added a small magnetic latch to help keep it securely closed.

The cage comes with an ARCA Swiss plate which locks the left and right plates together via two screws. This ARCA Swiss plate features two center-positioning points for DJI Ronin plates and Tilta 15mm LW baseplates.

Lastly, the full camera cage comes with a standalone top plate. This plate is basically a small NATO rail with 1/4″-20 and 3/8″-16 mounting points.
Price and availability
The Tilta full camera cage for the Sony FX5 is available now with a 10% launch discount for $89.10 (MSRP: $99.00).
Several kits are also available, including a base kit for $169, which includes extra side and top handles, a Power Kit for $249 that includes the cage and an extra V-Mount battery plate, and a Pro Kit for $269 that consists of the cage, a 15mm LW baseplate, and top plus side handles.
