Seven Mountains Media has launched “98 Jamz” in Bowling Green, KY, replacing rock formatted “The Point” across three FM translators W251BT (98.1), W252CV (98.3) and W274CD (102.7), with programming originating on WWKU (1450).
Positioned as “Straight Throwbacks,” the new station features hip-hop, R&B and rap from the past 30 years.
Bowling Green native Shawn “Big Hamp” Hampton anchors the weekday lineup, hosting from 10am to 3pm. Hampton, described by the company as a “positivity champion,” is deeply rooted in the local community.
The lineup also includes Compass Media’s “DeDe in the Morning” and “The Baka Boys” in the afternoon. “Sunday Night Slow Jams,” which previously aired on sister CHR station WUHU (107.1), has moved to “98 Jamz,” while R-Dub’s “Weekday Slow Jamz” airs weeknights from 10pm to midnight.
While “The Point” branding has been retired, Seven Mountains Media is retaining some of the former station’s programming features. The “2-Minute Promise,” which limits commercial breaks to no more than two minutes outside of syndicated programming, continues on the new format. The station’s commercial-free music hour has also shifted from 9am to noon and is now branded the “60 Minute Flex.”
The company is also directing former listeners of “The Point” to its classic rock station, “105.3 The Goat” WPTQ, which continues the legacy of the format with “The Local Show” on Thursday evenings and a lineup that features Dave & Mahoney, Andy Morgan and Axe.
