The outlet said a stroke was suspected as a possible cause of death, as Belorgey had been complaining of headaches in the days prior.
Fellow DJ David Guetta called Belorgey a “true icon of French electronic music”.
“Thank you for creating a sound that was entirely your own and for leaving us with music that will continue to inspire. Thank you for your kindness and simplicity,” he wrote on social media.
Raised in Seine-Saint-Denis on the outskirts of Paris, Belorgey taught himself piano before emerging on the French electronic music scene in the early 2000s, where he later opened for Daft Punk.
Much of the world will remember him for his signature hit, Nightcall, which featured in the opening to the 2011 film Drive, starring Ryan Gosling.
The song was created with Daft Punk member Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, with production assistance from Sebastian and vocals by Brazilian singer Lovefoxxx.
Kavinsky performed the song during the closing ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympics and the song surged in popularity once again, becoming the most-Shazamed track in a single day in the music recognition app’s history.
Belgian singer Angele performed the track alongside Kavinsky and French band Phoenix in one of the ceremony’s standout moments.
“Immense sadness,” wrote Angele on social media. “Thank you for letting me experience that unforgettable moment on stage with you, and the entire adventure that followed.”
French Minister of Culture Catherine Pegard said France had lost one of its unique voices.
“The whole world was captivated by Nightcall. Both danceable and nostalgic, his music will continue to transcend generations and borders.”
