Nick takes a look at the Behringer FLOW4V and the FLOW4VIO expansion that connects over StageConnect. The FLOW4V is a compact 24-bit and 32-bit float recorder designed for location audio, with four combo mic inputs, auxiliary or timecode input, Bluetooth, USB audio, headphone and line outputs. The 4VIO adds four more mic amps and can work as a four-channel USB interface.
The 32-bit float approach captures quiet and loud signals without conventional gain staging, so the monitor mix is central. Each of the Mic input channels includes gain, panning, filters, tilt EQ, dynamics and delay. A ribbon mic test shows that low-level recordings can be normalized cleanly later.
There are issues – SDHC-only media, basic file naming, no internal battery, no HDMI timecode input and no snapshot presets.
Even so, the price and feature set make it useful for podcasts, location work and compact multichannel recording.

We also created a Mac only app to rename (using the original time of recording), and normalize ISO channels in the multi-channel BWF. It does not destroy the original files, but do bear in mind this is a vibe-coded app and does not come with any warranty or liability etc.
