Bobby Axelrod’s N.Y.C. Penthouse in ‘Billions’ Lists for $59.5 Million

“You get one life, so do it all,” hedge funder Bobby Axelrod says to his protégé Taylor Mason in season two of Billions. For the fictional billionaire, played by actor Damian Lewis, part of “doing it all” involved living at the pinnacle of New York City in a dazzling glass penthouse.

The duplex apartment, which was prominently featured in seasons three through five of the hit Showtime series, in real life occupies a prime position atop the Sky Lofts condominium at 145 Hudson Street in Tribeca. It was completed in the early 2000s, with architect James Carpenter executing the design and PH Design handling the renovation. Wrapped in museum-quality insulated glass, the home offers 7,500 square feet of stylish interiors with four bedrooms and five bathrooms spread throughout. It also includes a giant wraparound terrace measuring 4,500 square feet.

The property made headlines in 2009, when lawyer-turned-investor William Duker bought it from developer Stanley Scott for $30.5 million, setting a record for the most expensive apartment sold in downtown Manhattan at the time. It has hit the market a handful of times since, with Duker most recently listing it in June for $59.5 million. He is also now selling his Miami penthouse, asking a total of $138 million for both residences. 

“I’m 72, and I’m just beginning to organize this next phase of my life,” Duker told the New York Post’s Gimme Shelter. “The last thing I need now are two apartments of this size.”

Accessed via a private key-locked elevator, the condo opens to a double-height south-facing great room with soaring 18-foot ceilings, a two-story wood-burning fireplace with a travertine hearth, and walls of glass that frame One World Trade Center. Sliding doors lead to the rebuilt terrace, where sweeping views of the Hudson River and lower Manhattan catch the eye. 

Back inside lie a custom kitchen, a formal dining room, a double-height media room, and a scenic game room. Each space is replete with the finest fixtures and finishes. Think wall paneling of cerused oak, bespoke doors with brass inlays, and designer lighting.

The corner primary suite, which overlooks the Hudson, offers another wood-burning fireplace, a travertine-clad en suite with a steam shower, and two oak-finished walk-in closets. The two additional bedrooms also have large closets and splashy en suites.

Then there’s the condominium itself. Built in 1929 as a printing factory, the 16-story Art Deco building currently offers just 21 residential units, making it a very exclusive address. Perks include a 24-hour doorman and a shared roof deck. The penthouse also comes with three dedicated parking spaces.
