It seems a truth of life that one might be wary of any person who insists that they, themself, are the sanest person they know. So begins the latest trailer for Victorian Psycho, in which Winifred Notty (Maika Monroe) says that she is the sanest person she’s ever met. Do you not immediately wonder what Winifred’s definition of “sane” is? I do. And over the next couple of minutes, she’ll put it on full display for you.
The previous trailer for Victorian Psycho was charming; this new one gives a somewhat better idea of the movie’s story, which seems to involve a rather conniving Winifred planning to become part of the family for which she works as a governess. “This won’t be like the other times,” she muses, probably incorrectly. Or perhaps it won’t be like those times! Perhaps it will be even bloodier.
Victorian Psycho, which is based on the novel by Virginia Feito (who also wrote the screenplay), earned a five-minute standing ovation at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. The movie has a great supporting cast alongside Monroe: Ruth Wilson, Jason Isaacs, and Thomasin McKenzie costar. Zachary Wigon (Sanctuary) directs; the movie is in theaters this fall.
