BBC Radio 1 Dance is refreshing its schedule later this year, with Charlie Tee becoming the new host of the station’s daily afternoon show, Martha launching a brand-new monthly show celebrating UK club culture, and a fresh line-up joining The Residency on Radio 1 Dance.

Charlie Tee will become the new host of Radio 1 Dance’s daily afternoon show (Monday to Sunday, 12pm–3pm). Soundtracking afternoons with the hottest new, current and classic dance tunes, Charlie will bring listeners the biggest tracks, freshest sounds and timeless favourites from across the dance scene. Matty Chiabi will continue to present the station’s 6am-9am show as part of the refreshed daytime line-up.

Charlie Tee says: “Absolutely elated to be joining the Radio 1 Dance line up in the afternoons. Dance music is my life’s passion and I cannot wait to get started!”

In other news, Martha will host a brand-new monthly three-hour show dedicated to UK club culture, shining a spotlight on the UK’s thriving electronic underground. The programme will support local club scenes, championing grassroots DJs, artists and sounds, while celebrating more established names from across the dance community. Each show will explore a different area of the scene, whether that’s a city, region, club, collective or genre, highlighting the people and communities shaping the UK’s club culture.

Martha says: “After almost 3 years of platforming underground club sounds on Radio 1, I want this new show to amplify, document and reflect British club culture. I hope to build a home for our next generation of underground dance producers, celebrate the underground scenes bubbling up and down the UK that influence wider culture and give a voice to the spaces we treasure so much, where this music sounds its very best: our clubs.”

Alongside these changes, from Thursday 6 August, the station will also welcome a new line-up to The Residency on Radio 1 Dance, with world-renowned DJs and some of the most exciting names in dance music, Silva Bumpa, Paige Tomlinson, Sam Alfred and Effy playing some of the biggest tunes every Thursday for four weeks from 11pm-1am. There will also be a special one-off show today (Thursday 30 July) from award-winning DJ and producer Jonas Blue.

The Residency on Radio 1 Dance continues every Thursday from 11pm–1am on Radio 1 and Radio 1 Dance, bringing listeners into the world of some of the biggest names in pioneering, high-energy dance and electronic music, shining a spotlight on the freshest, most influential and emerging sounds from across the UK and international club scene.

Jonas Blue

Award-winning DJ and producer Jonas Blue has become one of the biggest names in modern dance music, with global hits including Fast Car, Perfect Strangers, Mama, Rise and Polaroid. His catalogue has been certified platinum over 135 times worldwide, generating over 22 billion global streams, while he continues to perform at some of the world’s biggest festivals and clubs.

Jonas Blue says: “BBC Radio 1 has been such an important part of my journey, so joining The Residency is a real honour. I’ve always believed dance music is about connection, whether that’s a festival mainstage, an Ibiza dancefloor or hearing a record for the first time on the radio. Silva Bumpa (August)

Silva Bumpa is one of the UK’s fastest-rising dance artists, recently named one of BBC Radio 1 Dance’s Future Stars for 2026 and winning Best Breakthrough DJ at DJ Mag’s Best of British Awards. Following support from Radio 1, including Jaguar, Sarah Story and Danny Howard, he has become a standout name in the UK club scene with his energetic sound and forward-thinking productions.

Silva Bumpa says: “It’s an absolute honour to be host for The Residency on Radio 1 Dance for August. I can’t wait to share my story and showcase some of my favourite tracks and producers, both from this generation and those who came before, who have inspired my journey. Radio 1 has supported me since day one, so to now be given the opportunity to host the Residency is a huge milestone and a real full-circle moment. Join me on the airwaves and keep it locked!”

Paige Tomlinson (September)

Paige Tomlinson is a UK DJ and producer shaping the new wave of hard house, progressive house and trance. Known for her high-energy sets and club-focused productions, she was named one of Mixmag’s Breakthrough DJs of the Year in 2025 and continues to establish herself as one of the most exciting emerging names in UK dance music.

Paige Tomlinson says: “I’m honestly so excited to be joining The Residency on Radio 1 Dance. It’s something I’ve dreamed about for a long time, and to be given the chance to represent my sound on such an iconic platform means the world to me. I can’t wait to share the music I love, shine a light on artists who inspire me, and hopefully bring people along for the journey across the month.”

Sam Alfred (October)

Sam Alfred is an Australian DJ and producer known for his distinctive blend of jazz-inspired house, deep cuts and UK garage. With a sound rooted in 90s dance music influences, he has become one of the most exciting artists emerging from Australia’s electronic scene.

Sam Alfred says: “BBC Radio 1 has been a major part of my DJ journey, so I am super stoked to be joining The Residency. Being based in the UK my love for the station has grown even more now I’m in the same time zone! Most people know how vast my taste in music is, so to have the opportunity to show people some of my record collection and also some other tastes I have is super exciting. I cannot wait to get started!”

Effy (November)

As a producer, DJ, radio host and label founder from the North West of England, Effy has built an international reputation through her distinctive blend of breaks, electro and UK bass. Inspired by female producers such as Maya Jane Coles, her 2020 debut single Fluffy Clouds premiered via Mixmag and was supported by BBC Introducing Dance, quickly leading to a radio residency at London’s Rinse FM. Since then, she has released four EPs, played iconic venues including Fabric, Parklife and The Warehouse Project, and toured across Europe, Australia and North America.

Effy says: “As someone who listened to Radio 1 on the way to school every morning, being able to host my own show is a real privilege for me.”
