Otago Regional Council released images of the submerged car on social media and thanked people for reporting it to the pollution hotline.
“A great example of inter-agency collaboration today saw our Deputy ORC Harbourmaster working with Southern District Police and ORC’s Pollution team to pull a car from the drink at Back Beach, Port Chalmers,” the social media post read.
The post by the regional council also suggested fuel was leaking from the car.
A 28-year-old man will be appearing in Dunedin District Court facing numerous charges related to his offending.
