Best restaurant for dinner with friends?
There’s quite a few we like. Viaduct Harbour is always great (of course) with lots of good options, from Soul to Bivacco or Hello Beasty and Sean Conolly’s Esther Restaurant at QT, both of which were recently Michelin Recommended. We like Josh Emmett’s restaurants for a special occasion or Ahi with its NZ food story and approach to sustainability. Moxie in Birkenhead is a neighbourhood favourite.
The place to take a visitor?
Hard to go past Waiheke and its beaches, wineries and restaurants.
Best spot to finish a night out?
We really enjoy Panacea in O’Connell St. Relaxed vibe, great team and excellent drinks with snacks. A martini at Soul Bar always delivers.
Best coffee?
RAD in Mt Eden has always been solid for good coffee, and Tony has a great menu if you’re hungry.
Favourite trail for a hike?
Cascade Kauri park in the Waitākere Ranges is fantastic. I like trail running and the tracks around Kauri Falls are great, it’s a beautiful 10km loop through the forest.
Favourite fish and chip shop?
It’s been a while, but Auckland Fish Market in Jellicoe St was always good.
Venue for a gig?
It doesn’t exist anymore, but it always had to be the Gluepot Tavern at Three Lamps.
Best spot for a bargain?
Costco.
