Police have launched an investigation after a man self-presented at a North Shore hospital with an “unexplained gunshot wound”.

In a statement, Acting Detective Inspector Megan Goldie of the Waitematā Criminal Investigative Branch confirmed investigations were underway into a firearms incident in Hillcrest after a person was shot last night.

Officers were alerted to the incident at about 11.45pm when a man self-presented at an unnamed hospital “with an unexplained gunshot wound”, Goldie said.

“He received a serious injury and remains in hospital.”

Goldie said police were now making inquiries to establish exactly what had unfolded, including who was involved and responsible.
