Paid practice has been offered to GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS competitors on Wednesday ahead of the event officially getting underway a day later.
Track activity on Wednesday is not uncommon at Adelaide, though that opportunity is usually reserved for road cars via Zagame Automotive and Driving Solutions previously.
GT World Challenge Australia will have two hours of track time with an open pit lane.
A makeshift pit lane will be set up adjacent to the support paddock on Wakefield Road while Supercars bumps into the circuit, occupying pit lane.
SRO Motorsports Australia boss Ben McMellan explained the rationale behind the move.
“There’s an opportunity for them to have an optional practice session on Wednesday to get a little bit of extra track time,” McMellan told Speedcafe.
“Because for us controlling the events, it allows us to provide the amount of track time we feel is suitable for our customers, so having the ability to do this creates that opportunity to have increased track time given the limitations of the schedule with Supercars and everything else.”
The Adelaide Grand Final is the sole event on the GT World Challenge Australia calendar that is not part of the Shannons SpeedSeries.
The last of its SpeedSeries appearances will be at Sydney Motorsport Park, missing the Sandown Raceway leg to go to the Adelaide Parklands Circuit instead.
McMellan said the opportunity to race at the Adelaide Grand Final had been well-received even if it came with hurdles.
“It’s an interesting one. Obviously we do a majority of our calendar on the Shannons SpeedSeries,” said McMellan.
“Adelaide is one of the biggest motorsport events in the country, so for us to have the opportunity to go and race there in front of all the fans and on that circuit, it’s an amazing opportunity.
“It’s a circuit that our drivers love going to, so it’s always one of the favourites on the calendar.”
The Adelaide Grand Final takes place on November 26-29.
