The Great Plains Taste of Summer Charity BBQs are continuing this week. Today – Wednesday, August 5 –  AM1190, Magic 103, Country 106.7, and DiscoverWeyburn will once again be teaming up with our sponsors at Memorial Park, from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m., for a hot dog or hamburger lunch in support of Envision Counselling & Support Centre.

Free supports for everyone

Envision offers free counseling and in-home family support programs for any family living in southeast Saskatchewan.

“All of our programs are free. Anyone can just call in themselves and request access to services,” said Director of Operations, Laura Melle.”We also have referrals that come to us from schools and other partnering agencies. So whenever somebody is in need of coming in for counselling or some in-home parenting support, then we assess what their needs are, and where they’re at, and what their strengths already are. We want to build off of that. Then we match them up with a support person and work towards what their goals are for themselves.”

She said fundraising is important for Envision so they can continue offering their services for free.

“We know that times are tough right now and life in general is busy and expensive, and when people need support, they don’t need the extra added pressure of having to pay for that support. Some people have access to benefits through their work, but not everybody does. So we like to prioritize offering those services free of charge with trained professional staff.”

“[The cost] is just one thing that people don’t have to worry about. People come in all the time and they have their counselling appointment and then they ask, ‘how much is it?’ ‘Well, nothing. It’s free.’,” shared Melle.

“I mean, we accept donations and we do receive a lot of donations from people that access our services as well as people that maybe have a warm spot in their heart for helping Envision and what we’re working towards and offering for the southeast corner of Saskatchewan. But our fundraising efforts are important because it allows us to keep hiring trained, qualified staff and to be able to offer these services for free.”

Envision currently has about 43 staff across southeast Saskatchewan.

“We have five office locations, Weyburn, Estevan, Oxbow, Carlyle, and Moosomin. And then one of our counsellors at our Moosomin office also travels up to Rocanville, and works out of Rocanville Medical Centre one day a week.”

Supporting tastes great

The Great Plains Taste of Summer Charity BBQ in support of Envision will be set up on Wednesday, August 5, at Memorial Park, next to City Hall. We’ll have Mike from T&C Restaurant on hand again cooking up some delicious hot dogs and T&C Burgers. For $5, Weyburnites will be treated to a hot dog or hamburger lunch that includes dessert and a drink, with all proceeds going directly to Envision.
