Person trapped after ute and truck crash south of Rotorua on State Highway 5

A person has been taken to Rotorua Hospital in a serious condition after a two-vehicle crash on State Highway 5, Hato Hone St John says.

A spokesperson said another person was treated at the scene for moderate injuries after Hato Hone St John responded about 2.30pm.

A helicopter was called
but the seriously injured patient was taken to hospital by road.

Police said motorists should avoid the highway south of the State Highway 38 intersection in Waiotapu, south of Rotorua.

The road was closed northbound.
