The All Blacks have another tour game against the Bulls on Sunday as the final opportunity for Roigard to take the field before the opening clash at Ellis Park.
Meanwhile, the All Blacks are yet to name an injury replacement for Billy Proctor who is returning home after suffering a shoulder injury in the 38-21 win over the Stormers.
Proctor is the second All Black ruled out of the South African tour – and he is certain not to be the last – after Crusaders hooker George Bell’s calf injury necessitated Bradley Slater’s call-up five days ago.
Losing Proctor is a blow but with Jordie Barrett, Quinn Tupaea, Anton Lienert-Brown, Rieko Ioane and Timoci Tavatavanawai remaining in the squad, the All Blacks may believe they have enough midfield cover to last the tour.
A.J. Lam’s departure to France also leaves no obvious next-in-line replacement.
David Havili, before he departs to Japan, is one potential option.
Since assuming charge of the All Blacks earlier this year Rennie has made no secret of his desire to select Richie Mo’unga from the outset of his tenure. Mo’unga attended a camp with the All Blacks prior to the Super Rugby Pacific final.
The All Blacks coaching team may now wait until after tomorrow morning’s game to make the call.
