Some social media users then questioned the authenticity of Hathaway’s baby bump after photos from the premiere circulated online, with TikTok commenters suggesting it appeared prosthetic.
Entertainment Tonight’s TikTok post garnered tens of thousands of views, with some viewers insisting the bump did not look real, with comments including, “I’m sorry but that looks fake” and “There is no way that’s real”.
Others defended the actor, arguing that critics were making assumptions about what a pregnant body should look like.
“A lot of people in these comments have never seen a pregnant belly on someone who has abs,” read one of the most-liked responses.
“News flash people, not every baby bump looks the same,” another added.
Several users also criticised the scrutiny.
“Can women exist, damn,” one commenter wrote, while another said, “People judge pregnant women for gaining too much weight, then judge them when they’re all belly. Every woman carries differently.”
Hathaway’s latest post appeared to shut down the rumours, making it clear that while the hairstyle may have had some assistance, her pregnancy is very real.
Hathaway announced in June that she is expecting her third child with husband Adam Shulman. The 43-year-old actor shared the news on Instagram, where she revealed her baby bump to the soundtrack of Barbara Lewis’ Baby I’m Yours.
