The Association of Portfolio Managers in India (APMI) has elected Vikas Khemani as chairman and Sandeep Jethwani as vice-chairman. The appointments were announced after the industry body’s 29th board meeting held on August 10.

Khemani is the founder and chief investment officer of Carnelian Asset Management & Advisors, while Jethwani is co-founder of Dezerv. Both have experience across investment management and wealth management.

The leadership change comes as the portfolio management services (PMS) industry continues to expand in India. According to APMI’s latest PMS Industry Compendium, the industry’s assets under management stood at ₹43.3 lakh crore in June 2026.

As part of their new roles, Khemani and Jethwani will oversee APMI’s engagement with regulators, investors and other industry stakeholders, while focusing on investor education, transparency and industry best practices.

Khemani said APMI would focus on improving transparency, governance and investor awareness while supporting innovation and wider investor participation in the PMS industry.

Jethwani said technology would play a key role in making portfolio management more accessible, easier to understand and more transparent. He added that APMI would focus on technology adoption, investor education and engagement with distributors and other stakeholders.

APMI said it would continue to work on investor awareness, transparency, adoption of industry best practices and engagement with regulators as the PMS industry evolves.
