Before she was a Golden Globe winning podcast, Amy Poehler actually starred in a successful television program called Parks and Recreation. While that show didn’t have celebrity interviews, it did run for seven seasons and earn 14 Emmy nominations — six of which went to Poehler for Best Comedy Actress alone.
Now, Poehler is reteaming with the creator of Parks and Rec, Mike Schur, for Dig, an archeological comedy series set to debut later this year on Peacock.
As the series release its initial batch of first-look photos, here’s everything to know about Dig.
The Story
Based on the novel Excavations by author Kate Myers, Dig follows a team of archeologists working in Greece, who stumbled upon a potentially history-changing find.
The Cast
Led by Poehler, the 10-episode series also stars 10-time Emmy nominee Hugh Laurie, Geraldine Viswanathan (Thunderbolts), Fina Strazza (Fear Street: Prom Queen), and Antonia Thomas (The Good Doctor). Laurie reportedly plays a character named Neville, an archeologist who is a little bit stuffy, if you would believe it.
For Poehler, this marks her first major television leading role since the end of Parks and Recreation in 2015.
The Creative Team
Dig comes from Pohler and co-showrunners Mike Schur and J.J. Philbin. Schur, a three-time Emmy winner, comes onto Dig after his Parks and Recreation follow-ups The Good Place and A Man on the Inside. Philbin, a three-time Emmy nominee, most recently served as an executive producer on Only Murders in the Building.
The Release Date
Dig debuts on Peacock on Nov. 23.
