The couple have a blended family together, as Kardashian has kids Mason, 16, Penelope, 14, and Reign, 11, with ex Scott Disick, while Barker has son Landon, 22, and daughter Alabama, 20, with his ex-wife Shanna Moakler.
Justin Krook and Michael Dwyer, the directors of Barker’s new documentary Louder Than Fear, have explained how Kardashian has changed the pop punk legend’s life.
Krook told People: “He was very close with his kids, but within the last couple of years, he’s found the love of his life and I’ve really seen this sense of ease permeate him.
“You carry your shoulders like this and I just see him relaxing the last few years.
“I think it’s a large testament to his family.”
The new documentary explores Barker’s life and music career, including the lasting trauma he experienced after a 2008 plane crash that left him with a fear of flying.
The directors joined Barker on board the Queen Mary 2 early in the production process, as the musician travelled by water for a European tour.
The directors ultimately came to recognise that Barker has learned to live with trauma, rather than overcoming it.
Dwyer said: “The key distinction that we found over making this film is that it was not necessarily about overcoming [trauma] because I don’t think you actually overcome [it]. You actually live with [it].”
