Haupiri fire: Blaze breaks out at Gloriavale Christian Community

Fire crews are battling a blaze at a building on the Gloriavale Christian Community compound in Haupiri.

A spokesperson for Fire and Emergency said crews were alerted to a structure fire just before 9pm.

Two crews were initially sent out to the scene and found the blaze to be well
involved, prompting an additional response from Brunner, Greymouth and Ikamatua appliances.

No one is believed to be inside the affected building and the chance of the fire spreading to nearby buildings is considered small.

Crews are working to extinguish the blaze and are currently waiting for the power company to arrive at the scene.
