Genesis has won approval to build a solar farm near Foxton.

Genesis Energy has received fast-track approval for a 436ha solar farm near Foxton.

The company said the approval marked a significant step forward for one of the company’s largest renewable generation projects.

Located around 10km north of Foxton in the Manawatū-Whanganui region, the 436ha solar farm would comprise around 150,000
solar panels.

It is expected to generate 345GWh of renewable electricity each year, enough to power about 43,000 households.

Genesis chief operating officer Tracey Hickman said Foxton was an ideal location for a solar farm with its abundant sunshine.
