The Maungawhau Station was opened to the public last weekend and Te Waihorotiu Station in Auckland’s midtown area is open next weekend.

Nicola Rae, visiting from Titirangi with her daughter, said the city felt vibrant and exciting.
“There was a real community spirit,” she said. “It definitely made me more likely to use the station.”
“We want people to use the City Rail Link. That’s our next step. That’s our next challenge,” the Auckland Mayor said at an event to announce the opening of the new network, New Zealand’s largest infrastructure project that cost $5.5 billion to build, a blowout of more than $2b on the original estimate.

If he gets his wish, the CRL may start looking a lot more like London in the coming years, but let’s hope that weather stays away.
