A new mystery concerning Kim Tate (Claire King) has unfolded in Emmerdale.
Last month, she was victim of an unusual home intrusion. In the dead of night, she heard a strange noise and wandered downstairs with her shotgun.
Although she didn’t discover the culprit, viewers learnt that it was Serena Sugden (Casey Al-Shaqsy) who’d snuck into Home Farm and stole a USB stick.
Kim had ordered her ‘head of operations’ Ross Barton (Michael Parr) to find the culprit, to no avail. He questioned Moira Dingle (Natalie J Robb) and Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) – both holding grudges against the Tate clan – but they had no idea.
That night, while Serena loaded up her laptop screen, we saw several photos of the family on the USB – including of the late Frank Tate – alongside a multitude of folders.

She later returned the stick to the manor house and Kim suspected that she’d misplaced it. However, in today’s (17 August) episode, we learnt that Serena had been working on behalf of an old friend.
Amid the investigation into the murder of Dr Caitlin Todd (Caroline Harker), investigating officer DS Ramsden (Chelsea Edge) interrupted a conversation between Serena and Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins).
As viewers know, ex-copper Serena helped to cover up the crime, and Charity is taking responsibility – despite the fact her granddaughter Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) is the real killer.
Ramsden wanted to ask more questions, though Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter) told her that, under no uncertain terms, her cousin wouldn’t be answering anything unless she was in the station and accompanied by her lawyer.
Later, at Emmerdale Farm, Ramsden arrived to meet Serena. It quickly became apparent that they were old mates, though Serena suspected that she was there about Charity’s circumstances rather than as a social call. Fortunately, the Sugden newcomer kept quiet.

They then drove to the village together, where Ramsden made a deal. She said she’d help with the Dr Todd case if Serena kept to her deal regarding the Tate family.
She wanted as much dirt on the family as possible, particularly Kim!
On oblivious Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) then approached, though Ramsden asserted that her problem lay firmly with Kim and not him.
Why is Ramsden seeking information on Kim, and why did she rope Serena into stealing the USB stick?
