Podcaster and Celebrity Traitors star Joe Marler has revealed exactly what he thought of Prince Harry following their meeting last month. During his visit to the UK in July, Harry made an appearance on the Joe Marler Will See You Now podcast – with the 36-year-old making his stance known on the ongoing royal feud.
Harry travelled to the UK, where he attended various work commitments and a meeting with King Charles. His wife, Meghan Markle, and children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, also joined him later in the week and attended the meeting with the King.
Speaking to the Mirror, former rugby star Joe spoke positively about the podcast and the royal.
He said: “We put some prep in, but it crept up on us, and I was nervous, thinking about the whole thing and also the polarising public opinion of it. Jake [Bhardwaj] just said, ‘Calm down and think about what we want to achieve from having him as a guest.’ I knew I liked him. I was Team Harry, if there were teams or whatever.”
After 17 years as a professional rugby player, Joe said he knew having Harry as a podcast guest would cause some backlash.
He said: “I knew that there would be some level of backlash to whatever question or whatever answer he gave. But I didn’t want that to stop me and Jake from being genuine and in the moment.
“I wanted him and us to be present and to have the experience. I didn’t want to overthink things or not ask a particular question because of how it might be received. But the level of vitriol that comes with him, the social media backlash… What is the matter with some people?”
After being introduced by his full name, “Henry Charles Albert David,” the royal was asked whether there was any chance of shortening it – to which he simply said, “Harry”.
He was later asked about what he referred to as his occupation, and rather than leading with his royal title, he answered: “Full-time dad, British Army veteran…”
Harry delved into a variety of different topics during their chat, including fatherhood and mental health.
