The police spokeswoman said the road was expected to be closed for some time as a heavy tow was needed to remove the truck-trailer.
“It was blocking the southbound lane.
“It could be blocked for a while, traffic management is in place.”
A Fire and Emergency NZ spokeswoman said firefighters from Norsewood, Ormondville, Waipukurau, and Dannevirke attended the scene.
“Given that it was a truck, we upgraded the response to that.”
The driver had got themselves out of the vehicle, she said.
Firefighters helped with traffic control and clean-up, and had left by 1.45pm.
NZTA advised motorists to follow directions given by emergency services on-site, be prepared to detour and allow additional time for travel through the area.
