Harry and Meghan moving back to the UK: World reacts to ‘Megxit bombshell’

Royal commentators are now speculating whether this relocation means the couple will go back to being working royals.

Royal correspondent Laura Bundock told Sky News UK this was a “very significant move”.

Bundock said this appears to be a “half in, half out” scenario, where Harry will not go back to being a working member of the royal family, but will be able to more easily carry out some of his current duties with different institutions, such as the Invictus Games and other causes he is associated with.

However, the Daily Mail UK said Palace sources say there is no “half in, half out” option.

The Daily Telegraph UK’s deputy royal editor, Victoria Ward, also questioned whether the move means Harry is “back in the fold”.

“The development marks a significant shift in the Sussexes’ private and professional lives and will have a notable impact on their relationship with the wider royal institution,” Ward wrote.

As for a potential reason why the couple has now decided to return, Ward speculates it could have something to do with the political situation in the US.

“Why come back now? The American dream is perhaps not all it’s cracked up to be in Donald Trump’s US. It is no secret that the couple’s politics do not align with the President’s,” she wrote in a piece about the couple’s announcement.

Broadcaster and columnist Nina Myskow said the couple were “hounded out” of the UK by the media and made the best of it.

“I’m all for it,” she said on GB News about news of their return.

British broadcaster, TV personality and long-time Meghan critic Piers Morgan posted about the news on social media with nothing but a facepalm emoji.

Within minutes, Morgan posted about the news again, saying: “I may have to emigrate to the US”.

New Zealand-British journalist and commentator Dan Wootton also reacted to the news on social media: “What did we do to deserve this,” he wrote.

In the US, People magazine called it a “shocking move”, while TMZ described it as a “shocking twist”.

The New York Post also called it a “shock move”, made six years after the couple left their royal life in England.

King Charles was reportedly told about this decision on Sunday.

As of right now, Harry and Meghan remain private citizens and not working members of the British royal family.

The couple will reportedly live in a private residence outside of London.
