Robin Williams’ children revive late actor’s official Instagram account

  • August 21, 2026

Zelda Williams, the comedian’s eldest daughter, expanded on the decision on her personal account.

“Believe me, I know it’s a little strange,” she wrote on an Instagram story, Variety reported.

“Making that space into one where people can find authentic clips and photos of him is one of the best ways we’ve now found to fight back against rampant AI abuse of his voice and likeness on here.”

Williams, one of Hollywood’s most beloved comedians and actors, died on August 11, 2014, aged 63.

His death shocked the entertainment world and sparked an outpouring of tributes from fellow actors, comedians and world leaders. Authorities later ruled his death a suicide.

In the years after his death, his widow, Susan Schneider Williams, revealed he had been battling Lewy body dementia, a progressive neurological disease that affected his cognition, mood and physical health in the final months of his life.

His film career spanned comedy classics including Mrs Doubtfire, The Birdcage and Disney’s Aladdin, in which he voiced the Genie. He was equally acclaimed for dramatic performances in Dead Poets Society, Good Morning, Vietnam and The Fisher King.

Williams received four Academy Award nominations and won the Oscar for best supporting actor for his portrayal of therapist Sean Maguire in Good Will Hunting in 1998.

More than a decade after his death, Williams remains one of the entertainment industry’s most celebrated figures.

Recent retrospectives have highlighted his enduring influence on comedy and acting, and the role his story has played in encouraging more open conversations about mental health and invisible illness.

The family said the renewed Instagram account will act as a digital archive of Williams’ life and career, curated by his children, preserving memories, photographs and videos for fans around the world.
