Crews from Mt Roskill, Onehunga, Balmoral, Ellerslie, Avondale and Auckland City stations were at the fire.
“We’ve got a total of four fire trucks, two ladder trucks, one command unit and one support vehicle attending.”
People on social media reported Parau St had been closed, with a heavy Fire and Emergency and police presence in the area.
Lewis said Fire and Emergency was “still working to extinguish the fire and protect nearby exposures”.
“Exposures” is the term Fire and Emergency uses for nearby property or vegetation at risk from a fire, including trees, fences and other houses.
