Meanwhile, SH8 in the South Island is open again after a serious crash this morning left three people fighting for their lives.
The road between Tarras and Omarama had reopened by 3pm after being closed for several hours after 7.40am crash, NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi said.
Three people were critically injured in the crash on the Omarama-Lindis Pass Rd section of SH8, between Lindis Pass-Tarras Rd and Birchwood Rd.
