A spokesman for Auckland Council today said resource consent had not yet been lodged for the Costco Warehouse Drury scheme.

The Costco Drury Community page posted details of the map, showing the location of the store on a 6ha site, beside a supermarket site.

Costco is shown on a new planned street to be called Brookfield Rd, in the greenfields development where Kiwi is selling sites.

The giant American firm’s warehouse is in stage one of the scheme, with residential development earmarked for across the other side of a road.

Rebel Sport and Briscoes is also shown on the map to the city side of a New World supermarket, although Foodstuffs has not announced a New World but has bought a 1.2ha site at Drury.

The new Drury train station and State Highway 1 also feature on the map.

Last November, Kiwi reported on conditional sales of large-format Drury land zoned for retail to Costco, Rebel Sport/Briscoes and Harvey Norman.

Kiwi CEO Clive Mackenzie and Costco country manager Chris Tingman made a joint statement announcing Costco Wholesale Drury.

“Kiwi Property has reached a conditional agreement with Costco Wholesale to sell the retailer 6.4ha of land at its new Drury development, paving the way for New Zealand’s second Costco store,” they said.

NZTA held a Drury/South Auckland community information day on Saturday at Drury School Hall.

It invited people to meet members of its teams, have questions answered and learn more about projects affecting the area, including:

State Highway 1 Papakura to Drury project;State Highway 22 Drury upgrade project;Waihoehoe Rd upgrade project;SH1 Papakura to Bombay project;Auckland Urban Development Office: Drury neighbourhood;KiwiRail: Drury rail stations;Auckland Transport: New bus services and train stations and Takanini level crossings projects.Clive Mackenzie runs the company, which sold land to Costco and Ikea and owns the Sylvia Park shopping centre. Kiwi is spending hundreds of millions on a new town centre at Drury.

Costco is to be its trump card.

Kiwi was also the driving force in bringing Ikea to New Zealand with the first store opening last year on December 4.

Mackenzie has referred to the success of Costco opening at Westgate in late 2022 as a reason for the Drury plans.

Finance Minister Nicola Willis said last November that Costco Wholesale Westgate had more than 250,000 members.

They pay annual membership fees of $60 to shop there.
