Australian photographer Georgia Metaxas is set to speak on her book ‘Mnemosyne Grove’ at her ancestral island of Ithaca during the coming edition of Return2Ithaca.
The photographer, who grew up in Melbourne and now lives in London, will speak on her book at the seventh edition of Return2Ithaca, a residency program for photographers that is taking place on the island from 27 August to 11 September.
Metaxas’ presentation of her book will be held on 1 September with her also set to talk with Marta Weiss, Senior Curator V&A Museum – London. The talk itself will be interpreted in Greek as well.

Return2Ithaca will have the overall theme of “Returning from the Sea”, with participants asked to reflect on the essence of journeys whether physical, emotional, or intellectual and the transformative stories that unfold along the way.
The program will see participants develop a personal photographic project in close collaboration with international curators, immersed in the landscape, history, and spirit of Ithaca.

In addition to Metaxas’ presentation, other events scheduled to take place during Return2Ithaca include:
-28-30 August – Exhibition of Photobooks from around the world
-2 September – ‘Ithaca is filled with images’, 22 photographers from 16 countries presenting their work.
-3 September – Presentation of the work of four curators participating in the program: Marta Weiss, Herman Seidl (Fotohof, Saltzbourg), Arianna Rinaldo (Monopolis Photo Festival) and Angela Ferreira (Independent curator between Portugal and Brazil)
