Johns Hopkins Technology Ventures generated nearly $100 million in revenue in fiscal year 2026, driven by two “blockbuster licensed products and dozens of corporate research collaborations,” according to the division’s latest annual report.

The JHTV 2026 report for the year that ended June 30 details how the division has helped researchers and students work with industry, turn their research and discoveries into viable products and startup businesses, patent their inventions, secure funding for their ventures, and license their technologies.

“The returns are not only financial,” Christy Wyskiel, JHTV executive director and senior advisor for innovation and entrepreneurship, wrote in the report. “This work ensures that patients with glioma live longer, that prostate cancer is caught earlier, among many ways that Johns Hopkins research directly impacts health and society.”

JHTV supports 142 active startups, manages nearly 3,500 active patents, and is actively engaged in 98 research-based corporate partnerships.

Some highlights from JHTV’s activities in fiscal year 2026 include:

$65 million in licensing revenue
$151 million venture capital raised (77% of which stayed in Baltimore)
17 new startups

Two licensed products, Pylarify and Vorasidenib, account for the lion’s share of licensing revenue.

The culmination of 25 years of research, Pylarify is the market leader for prostate cancer diagnostic imaging via PET scan, based on technology from Martin Pomper, a Johns Hopkins professor of radiology and radiological sciences from 1996 to 2023. It was brought to market by Lantheus, a leading company in radiopharmaceutical oncology, and approved by the FDA in 2021.

The FDA’s 2024 approval of Voranigo (vorasidenib) marked a new era in the treatment of low-grade gliomas, the most common malignant primary brain tumors in adults. Vorasidenib is the first effective new drug developed in the past 30 years for this type of tumor. The journey of Voranigo began in 2008 when Bert Vogelstein and his team at the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center’s Ludwig Center and colleagues from Duke University first mapped the genetic blueprint for brain cancer, the mutated IDH gene.

Other notable discoveries advancing toward real-world applications included:

New ultrasound technology developed by Muyinatu “Bisi” Bell that can distinguish fluid-filled cysts from solid breast masses with near-perfect accuracy, sparing breast cancer patients unnecessary biopsies and anxiety.
Personalized digital replicas of patients’ hearts, developed by researchers led by Natalia Trayanova, help guide treatments for life-threatening arrhythmias and allow for the testing of procedures on the virtual hearts before real ones.
A new chemical process discovered by Michael Tsapatsis could enable microchip circuits smaller than today’s 10-nanometer standard, offering manufacturers a precise, economical way to keep pace with the demand for smaller, faster electronics.

The report also highlights the increasing interest in entrepreneurship among students, alumni, and community members. The Pava Marie LaPere Center for Entrepreneurship received more than 1,000 applications for program slots last year. The increase was featured in a July news report by WBAL-TV.
