A person has been seriously assaulted and a vehicle shot at following a crash in South Auckland, police say.

They said a Toyota and a Volkswagen crashed about 5.10pm on Ronwood Road in Manukau.

Senior Sergeant Aji Basra said an occupant of the Toyota was then reportedly assaulted by occupants of the Volkswagen.

Police believed a firearm was also discharged, damaging the Toyota.

“Two people received minor injuries, one of which required medical attention and has self-transported to hospital.

“The victims are understandably shaken by the incident, and we are providing them with support.”

The offenders left the area in the Volkswagen before police arrived, and in tandem with a Nissan, Basra said.

The Volkswagen was found abandoned on Cavendish Drive, and police believe the offenders continued on in the Nissan.

Their enquiries were continuing.

Meanwhile, Far North police said it appeared there were serious injuries after a two-vehicle crash in the rural locality of Peria.

Emergency services were called to Oruru Road, near Jason Road, about 8pm.

They said the road would be closed for some time while emergency services were at the scene.
