“She’s done 18 years’ battle, and she said, ‘Jacqui, I have been fighting it for so long, I don’t know how to die and I don’t want to.’”
Cudby created a Givealittle page and is calling on the community to back the couple who have dedicated their lives to it.
“Both of them have already given combined over 40 years to the Central Hawke’s Bay community, so I just think they have given; it’s time for other people to pay it forward.
“There is enough people in CHB, and I trust in our little community … I think we can get there.”
She said Jordan was told two weeks ago the treatments she was undergoing were no longer working.
She had been cancer-free after beating it 18 years ago, but it returned three years ago.
“For Suz, when I was talking to her and asking things, she sort of broke down … she is focusing on just getting one more Christmas with her loved ones.
“She said ‘You know I would be happy with that,’ but let’s go further and get her the full five, and maybe she can have two Christmases.”
Enough money was raised for Suzanne Jordan, right, to have one round of treatment, their hopes now lie in the generosity of the community with a Givealittle page.
So far, Jordan and Mouldey have raised enough for the first round of treatment, which she underwent on Wednesday, August 19.
“They threw everything they could together, pulled out all their savings, without leaving themselves short; they had enough to pay for the first treatment.
The Givealittle page had raised $18,329 by Wednesday morning, enough for a second round of treatment.
It has also put them on track for a third.
She said the couple were “blown away” by the generosity already.
“Some of them they have never ever met, and some of them they don’t know who they are because they have done an anonymous donation – they just can’t believe this is happening.”
Cudby said they were planning other fundraising ideas, including a monster garage organised by Waipukurau Mitre 10 staff and a raffle.
Collection buckets can also be found in store and every donation, no matter how big or small, mattered, Cudby said.
