Autumn is a favourite season among fashion fanatics for a reason, as it ushers in the start of fashion week season in the world’s major capitals, along with the return of layering, which is finally taking centre stage once again. The rainy season is also reserved for the inevitable spooky vibe, or witching season, which reaches its peak at the end of October, but Practical Magic 2 is allowing us to indulge in a little magic earlier this year.
The sequel to the 1998 cult classic, this time directed by Susanne Bier, has reunited Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock as sisters Sally and Gillian Owens, almost three decades after they first brought these unforgettable characters to life. Joey King and Maisie Williams join the new generation of Owens women, playing Kylie and Sally, Bullock’s on-screen daughters. The film premiered in London last night, where the actresses attracted attention with their fashion choices. Maisie Williams stood out in particular, choosing a red-carpet look inspired by one of Sandra Bullock’s iconic outfits from the late 1990s.
Naturally, the creations worn by the celebrated actresses took centre stage on the red carpet. Both remained true to their signature styles and decided to forgo method dressing on this occasion. Sandra Bullock chose a glamorous leopard-print dress, featuring a pattern that has been dominating the streets of New York for some time. The design from Sarah Burton’s autumn collection for Givenchy, with its high slit and striking corset, was perfectly finished with classic black sandals.
As a long-standing ambassador for Chanel, Nicole Kidman opted for a striking blue gown designed by Matthieu Blazy. The custom-made creation, covered in oversized sequins, was embellished with chains featuring pearl details, while gold sandals and understated jewellery completed the look.

The film’s press tour has only just begun, and we are already eagerly anticipating all the fashion looks the actresses have prepared for the upcoming premieres. A little red-carpet magic certainly would not hurt, but we will leave that part to their stylists, Jason Bolden and Leslie Fremar, who, we trust, will know exactly when the time is right to inject a dose of witchy aesthetics into the glamour.
