Of course, when it comes to the ‘50s sitcoms, I Love Lucy is always going to come up at the top of most lists. Lucy Ricardo, played by Lucille Ball, brought humor and relatability to the screen. Did you know that her real-life pregnancy was written into the show, and the writers went through some strict conditions to include it?
Ralph Kramden also stands out as a fan-favorite. The Honeymooners main character, played by Jackie Gleason, was a hot-tempered bus driver, but he had a lot of heart. He was one of those blue-collar men that many could relate to, looking for ways to improve life for his family. Only, for Ralph, it was more about searching for the get-rich-quick schemes to avoid the hard work, and who doesn’t love a character like that?

Leave It to Beaver brought us Theodore “Beaver” Cleaver, who captured the heart of childhood in the 1950s. He was inquisitive and kind, but he didn’t half get up to trouble! Of course, when he did do something wrong, it was with the right intentions, so it was hard not to feel for him or stay mad at him. There’s a reason there’s a full FAST channel devoted to the show.
Sometimes, it’s not the characters but the way the story is written that makes someone memorable. That was the case with George and Gracie on The George Burns and Gracie Allen Show. The two actors played exaggerated versions of themselves, but it was George’s fourth-wall-breaking moments that had everyone chuckling.
