Kartik Aaryan‘s next big project, ‘Captain India’, is finally set to go on floors, with the film’s London shoot scheduled to begin on September 1. The actor will headline the project, which marks director Shimit Amin‘s return to feature filmmaking.
‘Captain India’s London schedule
According to a report by Variety India, principal photography is set to kick off in London on September 1, with the schedule expected to run for close to two months before wrapping by the end of October. The film draws from India’s real-life evacuation of citizens from a war-torn country, reimagined as a fictionalised cinematic narrative. The screenplay has been written by Nash Vazifdar, Sanchit Gupta and Priyadarshee Shrivastava, and further cast additions are expected to be announced in the coming weeks. The film’s subject matter places Kartik in markedly different territory from the romantic comedies and horror comedies that have dominated his recent filmography, though official details about his character are yet to be revealed. Captain India has already locked in a theatrical release date of August 13, 2027, timed to coincide with the Independence Day weekend.
Shimit Amin returns to direction
The project brings filmmaker Shimit Amin back behind the camera for feature films, best known for directing ‘Chak De! India’ and ‘Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year’. ‘Chak De! India’, released in 2007 and starring Shah Rukh Khan, remains one of Hindi cinema’s most celebrated sports dramas. ‘Captain India’ was first announced back in 2021, with Hansal Mehta originally attached to direct before Amin came on board for the project.
Kartik Aaryan’s recent work
Kartik was last seen in theatres with ‘Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri’, a 2025 romantic comedy co-starring Ananya Panday and directed by Sameer Vidwans. Before that, he headlined the horror comedy ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3’ (2024), which went on to become a major box office success. Alongside Captain India, Kartik has several other projects in the pipeline, including ‘Naagzilla’, keeping his slate busy through the coming years.
