Firefighters helped remove one person from the aircraft before the patient was taken to hospital by ambulance.
Hato Hone St John said it was notified of the incident at 4.48pm and responded with an ambulance and a critical care unit.
Whanganui Airport’s manager said the matter had been dealt with and the airport remained open, but could not provide further details.
The Civil Aviation Authority has been contacted for comment.
