Three fire investigators remain on the scene of a house fire in the West Auckland suburb of Henderson that killed one person.
Emergency services were called to Forest Hill Road about 8.40pm on Saturday.
Crews from Henderson, Glen Eden, Te Atatū, Auckland City, Titirangi, Ōtara, Avondale and Mount Roskill responded.
On Sunday police confirmed one person had died.
Acting Detective Senior Sergeant James Kim said the cause of the fire was unexplained at this stage.
Police will be carrying out a scene examination at the house, including working with fire investigators.
Members of the community may see an increased presence while enquiries continue, he said.
The house in Henderson Valley was well ablaze when crews arrived at the scene on Saturday night.
At its peak, up to 35 firefighters were fighting the blaze, which broke out around 8.30pm.
Shift manager Garreth Lewis said the house was totally ablaze when crews arrived.
Six trucks, as well as one command unit and one hazardous materials unit, were sent to the scene.
Lewis said crews were searching for the person, along with fighting the fire.
The police and two ambulances also attended.
