Na Bothain guest cabins sit above the Isle of Raasay Distillery

 

Perched above the Isle of Raasay Distillery overlooking Skye’s Cuillin mountains, Na Bothain is a collection of guest cabins designed by Córr to extend visitor accommodation while creating a deeper connection between brand, landscape and guest experience. Responding carefully to the island’s dramatic topography, each cabin has been positioned to maximise privacy, frame expansive coastal views and sit lightly within the landscape. Drawing inspiration from the simplicity and honesty of Scotland’s bothy tradition, the architecture adopts a restrained material palette and uncomplicated forms that allow the surrounding environment to become the defining feature of each stay.

 

Inside, warm timber interiors create calm, tactile spaces, while generous glazing blurs the boundary between inside and out. Private terraces, outdoor cold plunges and dedicated sauna cabins further strengthen the relationship between architecture and place, encouraging guests to engage with the changing seasons and island landscape.

Simple cabin forms by Córr frame the surrounding landscape

 

Recently shortlisted for a Scottish Design Award, Na Bothain forms part of the wider Isle of Raasay Distillery visitor destination, which has since been recognised as the World’s Best Visitor Attraction at the World Whiskies Awards and featured in The Times and The Sunday Times Top 50 Places to Stay in the UK. Together, the accolades highlight the growing importance of landscape-led design in creating memorable hospitality destinations. 

 

‘The best hospitality architecture doesn’t compete with its surroundings – it amplifies them. Every decision at Na Bothain was about creating spaces that allow the landscape to take centre stage while giving guests somewhere warm, comfortable and beautifully simple to experience it,’ says Adam Storey, founder of Córr. The project reflects the Edinburgh-based design studio’s multidisciplinary approach, bringing together brand strategy, architecture, interiors and hospitality expertise to create destinations with a strong sense of place.
